About Steady

Steady is a Type 1 diabetes education blog written from the perspective of someone who has grown up counting carbs, changing infusion sets, and negotiating with stubborn blood sugars in real life — at work, on the road, and in the middle of the night. I started Steady because I wanted a place where people with T1D, and the people who love them, could get clear, practical information without being talked down to or scared into paying attention.

Who I Am

I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a kid. Since then, I have lived through fingerstick-only days, the early pump era, the first clunky continuous glucose monitors, and the current wave of smarter tech. I have had incredible support and some very unhelpful advice. I know what it’s like to do algebra in class while wondering if you miscounted breakfast.

Over the years, I found myself translating medical jargon into plain language for friends, family, and other people with T1D, explaining what a study actually said, what mattered in daily life, and what could safely be ignored. Steady grew out of that habit: a place where I can share what I have learned, keep learning out loud, and hopefully make the path a little less confusing for someone else.

What Steady Is (and Isn’t)

Steady is an education space for people living with Type 1, parents and partners who want to understand it better, and anyone who prefers explanations over hype. The focus is on how T1D shows up in everyday decisions: food, movement, work, travel, sleep, tech, and emotions. You can expect honest accounts of what has worked for me, where I have messed up, and how I adjust.

Steady is not a place for scare tactics, miracle cures, or dramatic before-and-after stories. You will not find lists of everything that can go wrong or numbers designed to shock you. Living with Type 1 already demands a lot of attention; my goal is to give you useful context and tools, not more anxiety.

How I Approach the Content

The posts on Steady are grounded in current evidence where it exists, and I will always tell you when something is based on research, lived experience, or both. When I refer to studies or guidelines, I will link to them directly and translate the key points into plain language. If experts disagree, I will say so and explain why it matters.

You can expect practical detail and clear boundaries: what you can try on your own, what is better to review with your care team, and what falls outside of my lane. I do not offer medical advice or replace your clinician. My role here is to help you understand the concepts well enough to ask sharper questions and make more informed decisions.

Who Steady Is For

Steady is for people who live in the gray areas: the ones who care about their health but also have jobs, kids, deadlines, and days when diabetes is not the main story. It is for those who want to understand the “why” behind recommendations so they can adapt them, not blindly follow them.

If you are newly diagnosed and everything feels loud, Steady is meant to give you a calmer, clearer voice to reference. If you have had T1D for years, you may find language for things you have been doing intuitively, along with a few new angles to consider. If you are a parent, partner, or friend, my hope is that this space helps you see more of what your person is navigating and how to support them without hovering.

What You Can Expect Going Forward

The pace here will be steady by design. I would rather publish fewer, thoughtful pieces than constant quick takes. Over time, you can expect deep dives on core concepts, practical guides to everyday decisions, and reflections on life with T1D that are honest without being heavy for the sake of it.

If a post helps you see something more clearly, ask a better question, or feel a little less alone in the work of managing Type 1, then Steady is doing what it is meant to do.
